The first few days
Freshly lightened hair is at its most delicate right after your appointment. Your stylist will tell you how long to wait before your first wash. Until then, skip tight ponytails and heavy heat styling, and let the color settle.
Wash smarter, not more often
- Use a sulfate-free, color-safe shampoo and conditioner. Your stylist can recommend the right Aveda products for your hair.
- Wash with lukewarm water. Very hot water opens the cuticle and lets tone fade faster.
- Stretch time between washes with dry shampoo.
- Use a purple or toning product only if your stylist suggests one, and only as often as they recommend. Overuse can dull brightness.
Protect it from heat, sun and water
- Always use a heat protectant before blow-drying, flat-ironing or curling.
- Turn the heat down. Medium settings are usually enough.
- Carolina summers are bright. A hat or a UV-protecting product helps stop blonde from turning brassy.
- Before swimming, wet your hair with clean water and apply conditioner so it soaks up less chlorine or salt.
Keep it healthy
Lightened hair loses moisture more easily. A regular conditioning treatment helps it stay soft and shiny. At LuLu, an Aveda botanical treatment starts at $25 and can be added to your color appointment.
When to come back
| Service | Why | At LuLu, from |
|---|---|---|
| Tone & gloss | Refreshes tone and shine between balayage appointments | $45 |
| Partial balayage | Brightens the face frame and top layers | $133 |
| Full balayage | Renews brightness all over | $153 |
Because balayage grows out softly, many guests go longer between full appointments than they would with foils. Your stylist will suggest a schedule that fits your hair and your goals.
